HMRC inspectors will visit to check business record.
Following a consultation exercise, HMRC has started a test and learn project to pilot business records checks for SME businesses across the country. Apparently, eight HMRC offices are taking part with up to 1,200 businesses being approached about a meeting at their premises to check their current year records. The exercise will be rolled out fully in autumn 2011 with up to 50,000 SMEs checked annually and over a four-year period: HMRC expects to raise an additional £600m in revenue.
